Sensus AMR solutions help streamline operations today while paving the way for a smooth, future-ready transition to AMI.
Looking to boost efficiency and deliver better service to your customers? Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) is a smart, budget-friendly way to modernize your gas metering system. It helps you automate data collection, improve billing accuracy, and cut operational costs – without the need for major infrastructure changes.
Thanks to GROEBNER’s partnership with Sensus and the support of our GROEBNER Measurement Resources (GMR) team, you’ll have expert guidance and the right tools throughout your upgrade journey. And when you're ready to move toward Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Sensus AMR solutions make that transition smooth and straightforward.
AMR Solutions for Cost-Effective and Reliable Data Collection
Sensus AMR technology simplifies how you collect meter data by eliminating manual reads and reducing operational overhead. You’ll gain more accurate data, more reliable billing, and more satisfied customers. And with support from the GROEBNER Measurement Resources team, making the move to AMR is easier than ever.
FieldLogic™ FlexRead Walk-By/Drive-By Solution
The FieldLogic FlexRead solution is designed with flexibility in mind. It reads Sensus SmartPoint® Modules/Smart Meters, ITRON Encoder Receiver Transmitter (ERT) devices, and Neptune devices, so you can keep using your existing infrastructure while planning for the future. It’s ideal whether you're working with legacy systems or prepping for AMI.
Hardware and software components include:
- FlexRead Vehicle Transceiver (VGB or EasyLink Reader): A device that collects meter data via drive-by or walk-by in a single pass, with real-time synchronization to the cloud-based Hub.
- Vehicle Antenna: A magnetic-mount antenna that sends meter data to the transceiver.
- Tablet: A Samsung or iOS device used to view and manage data in the field.
- FieldLogic Cloud Hub: A web-based application used to map routes, manage meter readings for immediate insights and control, and export readings directly to billing systems.
Transitioning to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
AMR brings immediate value, but when you're ready for even more capability, AMI is the next step. It enables two-way communication between meters and your utility network, supporting remote endpoint management, system diagnostics, proactive maintenance, and detailed data insights.
Using the Sensus FlexNet® network, smart sensors, and advanced analytics, you’ll gain real-time visibility across your entire system – helping you make faster, more informed decisions. And with help from GROEBNER’s GMR team, you can create a phased rollout plan that fits your goals and budget.
FlexNet® Communication Network
The FlexNet® two-way network powers Sensus AMI solutions, allowing you to manage your entire distribution system remotely. This network supports accurate billing, secure data transmission, enhanced regulatory compliance, remote diagnostics, fewer field visits, and more accurate demand forecasting.
Smart Sensor Solutions
Sensus offers a range of smart devices that integrate seamlessly with the FlexNet network:
- SmartPoints® on Diaphragm Gas Meters: These transceivers enable two-way communication by mounting directly onto meters allowing you to leverage existing infrastructure.
- Sonix IQ™ Ultrasonic Residential Meter: This ultrasonic meter features advanced technology, including remote shut-off and pressure monitoring, to ensure precise natural gas measurements. With an integrated FlexNet radio, it seamlessly connects with any Sensus AMR or AMI system, providing robust system intelligence and control in a compact, durable design.
- Smart Gateway Pressure Monitoring: Designed for remote locations without land-based communication, the battery-powered Smart Gateway sensor provides real-time access to pressure, temperature, level, and switch data through the FlexNet network, allowing you remote control over all pipeline locations.
- SentryPoint™ Cathodic Protection: Beyond traditional meter reading, SentryPoint Cathodic Protection offers automated, 24/7 corrosion monitoring for natural gas pipelines. Data from test points and rectifiers is collected automatically, with alerts for any coverage breaches, such as power failures, allowing field teams to address issues swiftly and accurately.
Building a Future-Ready Utility Network
By starting with AMR now, you’re setting your utility up for a more connected, efficient future. You’ll save time, reduce costs, and improve service – while making it easy to evolve into full AMI capabilities when you’re ready. With GROEBNER and Sensus on your side, upgrading your system doesn’t have to mean disrupting operations or stranding valuable equipment. Instead, you’ll move forward on your terms, with expert support at every step.
