Step 1 – Tracer Wire
Copperhead’s copper-clad steel tracer wire provides superior strength and durability. Choose the right tracer wire for the right installation method. This Tracer Wire Selection Guide can help you choose the right tracer wire for your locating services.
- Open Cut – SuperFlex™
- Open Cut – High Strength
- Horizontal Directional Drill – SoloShot™ Extra-High Strength
- Pipe Burst – SoloShot™ Xtreme
Step 2 – Connectors
Solid connections ensure the continuity of the signal throughout the tracer wire system. Make sure connectors are waterproof with non-hardening dielectric silicone sealant.
- SnakeBite™ Locking Connector
- Mainline-to-Service & Twist-On Connectors
- Pipe Burst Connector
Step 3 – Round Rod
Properly grounding the tracer wire system is critical in being able to locate your utility. Use a 1.5-pound drive-in magnesium ground rod at dead-ends and access points to pull the locate signal down the target line.
- Ground Rod
Step 4 – Access Points
Provide direct connection to the tracer wire system and engage/disengage ground to control the signal down a target line with Copperhead access points. Choose access points best suited for your application.
- At grade multi-terminal – SnakePit®
- At grade integrated curb and tracer – BoaBox™
- Above-ground multi-terminal – Cobra™
- Above-ground multi-terminal – Mini Cobra™
- Above-ground single terminal – SnakeSkin™
Step 5 – Pipe & Cable Locator
Locate tracer wire and other buried objects as needed with a dependable, multi-function, general purpose locator. Choosing one that combines ferrous metal detection and active locate frequencies all in a single device eliminates the need for an operator to carry two devices in the field.
