Looking at the trends and their industry insight, Hubbell continues to expand its product lines to serve their customers’ needs. A couple of the more popular specialty products for the natural gas industry are noted below.
Excess Flow Valves
When it comes to the distribution of natural gas, safety is always the number one priority. Excess Flow Valves (EFVs) provide that needed safety by mechanically stopping the flow of gas when the flow rate exceeds design limits. When activated by excess gas flow through the pipe (typically a damaged service line), a positive seal prevents gas from passing beyond the valve and the valve stays closed until the line is repaired and gas pressure returns to normal. These valves are designed for installation as close to the gas main tap tee as practically possible. Capacities and trip points are based on system inlet pressures and service line sizes.
Hubbell offers two brands of EFVs – Lyall & GasBreaker.
Lyall’s LYCO® Excess Flow Valves are available in three different designs with a wide range of configuration options and assemblies to meet your need:
- EFV I – 1/2” CTS to 1-1/4” IPS
- EFV II – 1/2” CTS
- CEFV – 1-1/4” IPS and 2” IPS
GasBreaker Excess Flow Valves are available prefabricated to your specifications in plastic, steel, or in a wide range of tees, couplings, and mechanical fittings:
- EFV All Plastic Models – 1/2” CTS to 2” IPS
- EFV All Steel Models – 1/2” CTS to 2” IPS
- EFV Steel to Plastic Models – 1/2” CTS to 1” CTS
Prefabricated Meter Sets
Advance Engineering Corporation is a national leader in providing the natural gas industry with prefabricated meter sets. They understand the need to work with your approved sources, as well as their own, to come up with the perfect prefab set that works for you. The meter set provides long-term consistency for long-term cost control.
With AEC’s tooling and equipment, they can manufacture all types of prefabricated standardized and customized residential 200/250 class meter sets. They offer many design options including, but not limited to, meter bar, unifit, and slim fit configurations.
AEC looks to provide standardization throughout the diaphragm meter range. For their commercial prefabricated meter sets, they fabricate loops, coining, and bypasses from a 400-class meter all the way up to a 1000 class meter with the largest connection of 2” #5 Sprague.
