Excess Flow Valves (EFVs) provide safety for the natural gas consumer by mechanically stopping the flow of gas when the flow rate exceeds design limits. When activated by excess gas flow through the pipe (typically a damaged service line), a positive seal prevents gas from passing beyond the valve. These valves are designed for installation as close to the gas main tap tee as practically possible. Capacities and trip points are based on system inlet pressures and service line sizes.
